Tell us why you’re best for the Policy, Advocacy, and Ecosystem committee!
Most recently I have co-chaired on 2 of 3 committees within the New Economy Initiative Ecosystem which consisted of Access to Capital, Gaps and Collaboration. Serving as co-chair we had much success in work groups, creating events and intellectual materials that continue to support entrepreneurs and small business owners across the city.
I am a native Detroiter, a community partner, an advocate for quality early education and in my current role I have access to a market that can and will assist in supporting upcoming initiatives.
Why are you interested in serving on a Connect 313 Committee? What do you hope to gain from the experience?
One of the previous committees I spoke on was Gaps which for us, among other things, Digital Inclusion and the disparity that exists became a focal point of our work efforts. As such I am familiar with many of the initiatives that have been rolled out to address this issue. I feel that in my current workspace I can bring necessary data, programming and engagement to the committee and I will gain a sense of resolve seeing the work reap benefits.
What is your vision for bridging the digital divide in Detroit?
My vision is to see a prosperous, thriving Detroit with public/private commitment to funding low-cost to free wireless access and devices to any and all who require it. Access to information should be looked at as a right not a privilege.
